1979 PONTIAC TRANS-AM FIREBIRD - $79999

 

The second generation Firebird was introduced by Pontiac in 1970, with a strong 11 year
production run. The traditional ‘coke bottle’ styling of the first generation Firebird was replaced
with a smooth roof and rear windshield profile that integrated into the boot. While convertible
body styles were not offered in the second-gen, four coupe models were offered including the
Firebird, Firebird Esprit, Firebird Formula and widely popular Firebird Trans AM.

This particular example is a matching numbers 1979 Pontiac Trans-Am Firebird finished in a
subtle shade of silver with contrasting red decals, including the iconic ‘Firebird’ bonnet logo
and ‘Trans Am’ text decals. The exterior presents beautifully with full paintwork undertaken in
June of 2007 during it’s ownership in Canada, with receipts available. Trans Am specific
elements such as the front lip, wheel arch flares, ‘snowflake’ wheels, rear deck lip, front
quarter vents and ‘shaker’ add to the aggressive and legendary appearance of late 70’s
Firebirds.

As for the interior, an array of red vinyls, velours and plastics feature throughout and make a
strong statement against the silver body. The immaculate interior elements present as per
factory and are in original condition. A subtle aftermarket addition by means of a Sport-Comp
temperature gauge sits neatly in the existing storage slot. This Trans-Am still retains its Left-
Hand-Drive configuration, offering an authentic driving experience.

The 403 Oldsmobile V8 received a rebuild in 2020 by Jaaz Automotive, including mild
modifications such as a cam and Quickfuel 600 carburettor with recipes available. It is mated
to a 3-speed automatic, providing for smooth cruising abilities.

The current owner has been the custodian of this Trans Am Firebird since 2013 and has
rarely driven it since, even claiming that they have never driven it in the rain! A strong
documentation record is still with the vehicle, including the owner’s manual, original
documents and purchase receipts dating back to June of 1979.
