2001 MITSUBISHI EVOLUTION VI TOMMI MAKINEN - $189,999
The Evo VI was the sixth generation of the legendary Evolution model line, produced by
Mitsubishi from early 1999 to mid 2001. The main changes over the previous generation
included improved cooling via a larger intercooler and oil cooler. Engine durability was also
improved with new pistons and turbo. Visually, the VI received smaller fog lights over the
previous Evo V.
Tommi Makinen was the poster boy for Mitsubishi’s rally success, bagging four World Rally
Championships for the manufacturer. In his honour, Mitsubishi released the ‘Tommi Makinen’.
Now a cult classic, the car has featured in many video games including Gran Turismo and is
highly regarded amongst enthusiasts.
This is example is an "Australian delivered" 06/2001 build, finished in the very subtle ‘Scotia White’ (W83H) with
colour matched Enkei wheels at each corner. Slight differences including the front bumper,
Ralliart and Tommi Makinen body stickers help signify the importance of this vehicle. A full set
of Brembo brakes appear at each corner and help to stop this Evo on a dime.
While the interior is restrained in it’s design and features, it presents a true driver focused
experience. A set of ‘Tommi Makinen’ embossed Recaro seats hold the driver and passenger
in place, while a leather bound gear knob and Mono steering wheel give the driver complete
confidence and control over the available horsepower.
Familiar to the Evolution line-up is the 2.0L Turbo Inline-4 cylinder motor, particular the 4G63.
Notorious for handling big horsepower and boost, the 4G63 creates an exhilarating driving
experience, stock or modified. A strong 5-speed gearbox allows the driver complete control
over the Turbo 4 cylinder, with the all-wheel-drive system working hard to keep this Evo VI
glued to the road.
With desirably of Japanese cars at an all time high, the Evo VI Tommi Makinen is no
exception. Whether it is for your collection or for the next track day, there is no doubt you will
own a piece of Mitsubishi and WRC history.
