1992 HOLDEN COMMODORE VP SS- $31999

 

The VP series Commodore was introduced in 1991 with a short production run until 1993.
The VP replaced the successful VN series, with a range of cosmetic changes made. The
changes included new headlights, indicators, grille, bumpers, rear centre boot garnish, spoiler
and most notably, directional style wheels. Semi-training arm IRS was standard across
Commodore SS and Calais, drastically improving driving characteristics. As well as the
standard 3.8 Litre V6, the desirable 5L injected V8 was carried over into the VP lineup.

This particular example is a VP SS commodore, leaving Holden’s Elizabeth manufacturing
facility in 1992. Finished in the subdue Anthracite Grey Metallic, it’s iconic red body highlights
are a symbol of SS commodores of the 90s. The exterior presents mostly stock including the
lower lip kit, SS stickers and V8 ‘5.0 badging’. The factory wheels have since been replaced
for a set of menacing 20” Director Star wheels, giving this VP SS an aggressive look.

The interior presents mostly original including the VP SS steering wheel and iconic checkered
insert seats with red piping. Aftermarket additions to this VP SS’ interior include a Kenwood
stereo and custom roof lining with embossed Holden ‘Lion’ badge.

As per standard VP SS specification, the trusty 304ci ‘Iron Lion’ is fitted and sounding strong.
This 5L V8 appears to have had a cam installed at some stage, however the cams specs and
build details can’t be conformed. This SS also appears to have been a factory 4-speed
automatic example, but how houses a 5-speed manual gearbox, a far more exciting choice to
unleash the injected 5L motor.

With early Commodore continuing to increase in popularity, take the opportunity to secure this
tough VP SS.
