1982 HOLDEN HDT VH SS GROUP 3 COMMODORE - $169999​

 

This 1982 HDT VH SS Group 3 Commodore is one of the nicest examples we have seen. The VH certainly wasn't the more lairy of the Brock nameplated HDT Commodores. The cars came in three different specifications, Group 1, Group 2 and the top of the tree, Group 3 like this example. The car was built by HDT in November of 1982 before being sold new by United Motors in Mile End, South Australia. The car was purchased by the current owner in 2018 who put the car though a full cosmetic restoration and mechanical maintenance during his ownership.

The body of the car was in very good shape but the paintwork has seen better days. With very high standards, the owner made the decision to do the job properly and stripped the whole car back to bare metal for a full repaint in its original signature colour of Maranello Red. The whole car was painted inside and out to a high level. The car retains its original group three body kit including front air dam, bonnet scoop, side skirts, rear underbody, boot spoiler and wind splitters. The SS Group three decals were replaced and the original Irmscher wheels were fully restored with new tyres.

Inside the trim of the car was fully restored back to factory by cools auto trim. The dash pad was refinished and everything kept to a factory appearance including the original stereo system in place. The HDT branded Momo steering wheel remains front and centre. Creature comforts inside include power steering and factory air conditioning. The odometer in the car currently displays only 93,456 kms.

Under the bonnet is the factory matching numbers, 5.0L V8 HDT engine. The engine is standard but came pretty hot from factory with big valve heads, SS inlet manifold, SS distributer and cold air intake tray. Like the rest of the car, the engine bay is very well presented in a factory style, The engine is paired to a M21, four speed manual transmission with the clutch replaced during the current ownership. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a Borg Warner diff with 3.08 ratio limited slip centre. The suspension is standard with Bilstein shocks front and rear. The brakes are also rebuilt standard items,

Any high-performance Commodore touched by HDT and featuring Peter Brocks name on the side is certainly highly valued by collectors. The car comes complete with a copy of the original HDT build sheets for authenticity. This car is finished in Brock's Signature colour and is one of the top of the tree group three examples. The high level of restoration on this car combined with its low mileage, certainly makes for a desirable collector car.
