1979 FORD XD FAIRMONT GHIA - $44999
The Falcon XD was introduced in 1979 following the Falcon XC. A redesign was undertaken,
borrowing inspiration from Ford Europe’s Ford Granada Mark II. The XD model range saw the
removal of the 2-door hardtop body shape, but saw the introduction of limited models such as
the European Sports Pack, S Pack and Limited Edition Fairmont Ghia. 302 and 351 ci V8
engine options were available as well as the 3.3 and 4.1 litre straight six. Notable examples
include Dick Johnson’s “Tru-Blue” XD, which won the 1981 James Hardie 1000.
This particular example is a 1979 model year XD Fairmont Ghia. Notably, it retains its original
matching numbers 302 ci V8, mated to a C4 transmission with a 2800 high stall. Power is
delivered to the real wheels via a ford 9” differential. Headers high flow exhaust allows the
rumble of the 302 to be heard, while a set of alloy rocker covers completes the engine bay.
The late 70s styling is highlighted by the silver duco paint and black bumper details. Centreline Autodrag wheels compliment the exterior while providing an aggressive look. A
full XF Ghia trim, electric windows and steel sunroof complete the interior. A B&M QuickSilver
shifter is also fitted providing an engaging experience moving through gears.
With ever increasing popularity of chrome bumper Falcons, this XD provides a great
opportunity to get behind the late 70s/early 80s plastic bumper Falcons. A real street car that
is nice to drive and ready for your summer cruises.
