1976 HOLDEN HJ MONARO GTS- $TBA$

 

The HJ series was introduced in the third quarter of 1974, replacing the legendary HQ series.
The HJ received a facelift, most noted by the squared-off front end and wrap around
indicators. The same warp around treatment was provided to the rear taillights that were
presented in a triangular-like shape. Popular model lines such as Monaro, Kingswood and
Premier were carried over.

This particular example is a Holden HJ Monaro GTS 4-door, manufactured in early-1976.
Since leaving the factory, this HJ Monaro has been restored. During this process, it was
repainted in it’s tag matching ‘Absinth Yellow’. Correct detailing was reinstated during the
restoration including rear quarter ‘GTS’ decals, lower sills in black and Monaro badges to
front quarters. Other key Monaro specific features include the ‘GTS’ grille and three-fin front
quarter panels. A set of HQ/HJ Monaro coupe wheels appear at each corner with a set of

period correct square edge wheel trims to complete the look of this neatly presented HJ.
As part of the restoration, the original cloth over chamois trim was retrimmed in the desirable
slate vinyl with red centre stripe for the seats and slate vinyl for the door cards. As a result,
the interior presents just as beautifully as the exterior. Monaro specific features are still
present such as ‘GTS’ badge above centre console, round gauges and instrumentation to the
dash and GTS style steering wheel. Additionally, the original radio is still present.

The running gear is as per base Monaro specification, featuring a 253ci V8 and automatic
transmission. While this may not be considered particularly powerful by today’s standards, it
does offer the period correct sound and driving experience of a mid-70s Holden muscle car.
With timeless HJ Monaro styling, period correct driving feel and effortless cruising ability, why
not secure this HJ Monaro and continue the legacy of this classic Holden.
