1971 HOLDEN HQ MONARO LS- $95000

The HQ Monaro Coupe emerged in July of 1971, featuring a completely new body design
over the First Generation ‘K,T,G’ models. Some notable changes were the larger rear
window, squarer rear quarters and integrated taillights into the rear chrome bumper. The HQ
Monaro was available in Base Model, Monaro LS, GTS and GTS 350. While most Base and
LS models received the 173ci and 202ci engines respectively, the GTS came standard with
the 253ci and could be optioned with the 308ci. The Chevrolet sourced 350ci V8 was
reserved for GTS 350 model lines.

This particular example is a Holden HQ Monaro LS leaving GMH’s Melbourne production line
in 1971. Since leaving the factory, this Monaro LS has been painted in ‘Orchid Metallic’, a
seemingly rare colour amongst HQs. Tell tail LS styling cues appear in the form of quad
headlights, Monaro LS badging and Monaro LS grille. However, some subtle external
changes have been made to enhance the beauty of the HQ coupe. These include HQ Monaro
GTS wheels at each corner, GTS quarter fins and colour matched GTS style side mirrors.

The interior has received some love and presents just as well as the exterior. Desirable LS
bucket seats are present, with full-length centre console housing the automatic T-bar gear
selector. The original LS steering wheel has been replaced with a GTS style wheel, while the
original wood-grain Monaro LS dash facia sits in place complimenting the interior colour. This
Monaro LS still retains the correct Air Chief radio and stainless steel belt buckles to the rear

As for the running gear, this Monaro LS now runs a strong 253ci V8, linked up to an
automatic transmission. While this may not be considered particularly powerful by today’s
standards, it does offer the period correct sound + driving experience of a mid-70s Holden
muscle car, all while being well suited to the philosophy of the LS, the luxury Monaro.
While Monaro LS’ are particularly rare now-a-days, take this opportunity to secure a very
neat, unique example that is ready for effortless cruising all day.
