1971 HOLDEN HQ MONARO GTS - $134999
The HQ Monaro Coupe emerged in July of 1971, featuring a completely new body design
over the First Generation ‘K,T,G’ models. Some notable changes were the larger rear
window, squarer rear quarters and integrated taillights into the rear chrome bumper. The HQ
Monaro was available in Base Model, Monaro LS, GTS and GTS 350. While most Base and
LS models received the 173ci and 202ci engines respectively, the GTS came standard with
the 253ci and could be optioned with the 308ci. The Chevrolet sourced 350ci V8 was
reserved for GTS 350 model lines.
This particular example is an HQ Monaro GTS Coupe (80837), built at Sydney’s Pagewood
plant in 1971. As per the tags, this was originally finished in ‘Baroda Silver Metallic’ (13122)

This Monaro GTS now wears a coat of solid yellow paint, creating a far more aggressive and
bold statement on road. A set of Centreline Autodrag wheels look at home on this coupe, as
well as nicely presented chrome bumpers and highlights to complete the look.
As for the interior, this Monaro now presents a black vinyl trim, which compliments the Yellow
exterior perfectly. The GTS steering wheel and silver dash fascia add a layer of contrast to
the interior, while a B&M Pro Ratchet shift gives the driver complete control over gear
The running gear features a small block Chev V8, mated to a turbo 400 transmission and a
Ford 9” diff in the rear end. This particular mild setup offers for an entertaining driving
experience with the sound and performance to match.
