1968 HOLDEN HK MONARO GTS - $249,999
Introduced as a new vehicle style for Holden, the HK Monaro was revealed in July of 1968
featuring a distinctive pillarless ‘coke bottle’ style body, inspired from Chevrolet’s Camaro and
Nova of the time. A series of trims were available, from the humble 161 straight-6 base -
model to the fully fledged GTS 327. The 327 was particular special as it received Chevrolets
327ci V8, which was rated roughly to 250hp in the day.
This particular example presents as a HK Monaro GTS, leaving the Sydney Pagewood plant
in 1968. This example is finished in ‘Bright Blue Metallic’ (1764), complete with all GTS
stripes and badging. GTS hubcaps at each corner complete the period correct look that this example achieves. Chrome bumpers and stainless trims present well.
Internally, this example presents a subtle black vinyl interior (10X) with timber highlights
across the dash facia, gear knob and GTS steering wheel. While restrained in its design and
features, the HK interiors classically provide a driver focused experience.
In favour of a General Motors V8, this HK Monaro GTS still retains an 186S straight six. While
visually the motor and engine bay presents beautifully, this example drives just as well. To
complete the running gear, a 4-speed manual gearbox allows for full control of the driving
While timeless in it’s design, desirability is now at an all time high. Take this opportunity to
turn this example into your pro street machine or retain its originality for years to come.
